These enhancements are realt beautiful.

While you are at it, editing the panels, can you supply us one with a GPS, can be standard FS 530, or 430, which can be exchanged for Simflyer or RealityXP  ?

Much appreciated.

Hmmm, time to pack up my paintbrushes! Now that's what i call enhancement and realism! Good job nEDDu

How does panel creation work? do you need to make new 3d models? Or do you buy or download new gauges from RealityXP or Avsim? I've never really considered this in the past.

Hi Chris

panel enhancements are in theory relatiely simple, especially 2D panels. There is a very good piece of software around called FSPanelstudio (Fspanelstudio.com), and it is reasonably priced. With that editing panels is a breeze.

VC are a bit more difficult, because the information is embeded in the aircraft model. Sometimes your panel.cfg has got some entries starting with [Vcockpit0...]. These are the places where you place the instruments for the VC. The snag is, that there are no background bitmaps to aid the placement of the instruments. You in actual fact have to keep the dimensions of the gauges and replace them one by one, but with FSPanelstudio this process is also relatively easy.

Now, for the Dornier... I don't know what Marcel has done, the placement or changes of gauges in the 2D panel has an effect on the VC, which does not show any instruments at all, just the panel bitmaps.

That is the point, where I am battling. I'd like to "modify" my Dornier for peronal use, with GPS and other modern instruments.

AVsim has got a huge amount of freeware gauges, some of them very useful and others are just replacements for the default gauges. If you are looking at very good avionics, check out the payware Simflyer gauges or RealityXP. The latter are a bit more expensive, and I have no knowlege how they compare to the Simflyer avionics. I guess it is a personal choice and the size of the wallet.

Sorry Marcel for mentioning different manufactures  . I do not want to promote anything, just give my personal option.

Chris, I hope this helps.

If you need more information or help, pop me an email.

Eberhard

All new gauges are freeware and some are edited!

No 3D model modify are needed, just the trasparency are modifyded (0,0,0 to the alpha chanel).

To Eberhard:

I think it's very hard to put any GPS into the cockpit, the gauges position are predefined in the 3D models, and this are too little for every GPS sistem.

I will try with the N9313A model, but it will be very hard!

Thanks, and sorry for my bad english!

Detailed answer there Eberhard, Danke sehr!

I'll keep that on the back burner as I do not like flying in 2D cockpit. Not since I added TrackIR and pedals.

I really must learn 3D modelling some time. Probably not until I retire  because my day job is equally fascinating and I am not ready to give that up yet.

Hmmm, I could always build a cockpit under my monitors... Trouble there is that a real panel is too aircraft specific. Mind you, it was fascinating to see what can be done, when I visited the FS show at Paderborn.

Or could there be an alternative way? Three monitors for the outside views and a fourth, central and lower, to display the 2D panel? So many things to think about...

Maybe another option is for the model developers to release their master 3D files to selected and trusted panel makers? There could be an extra source of income there - a few Euros per panel, no real commercial venture, but some extra "beer money".

Maybe the same could go for different aircraft sub-types? After all, the basic work has been done already and I don't think people would object to a "Q5" for a few Euros on top of the basic A/B models. It may well be worth it, although I don't really know how often the basic Dornier has already sold. I guess it must be very popular though.

I've tried... it's impossible put any GPS (with a real size!) into the 3D cockpit!!! :(

What a pity, but I think the other enhancements are very welcome.

Thanks for trying!

Hello there,

Please keep in mind, that all additional gauges, like the Attitude Indicato and the Turn Coordinator won't be compatible with the Dornier systems!

That you can't add additonal gauges is the price to pay for better performance of the gauges. ;-)

Regards,

Marcel

I built my own computer desk that I modified to have my second 19" monitor mounted at a 30 degree angle underneath my 24" monitor. The 24" is at eye level, and the 19" is kind of like looking at the dashboard in your car. I have slide out shelves on the left side for my CH Pro throttle, one in the centre for my Yoke, and one on the right for an atlas. I made a 2d panel in flight sim panel studio with the GPS500, some of the other 2D panels, and the main gauges from the VC on it. I undock this panel to the 19" monitor, and fly in the VC on the 24" monitor. It works really well, and I don't have to always be opening up other windows. It adds a bit of realism.

Standard FS keypress commands...

Shift, Ctrl, Shift & Ctrl and Enter or Backspace

Any of the above move your viewpoint around the cabin. Use the joystick coolie hat and you change direction of view.
