Diamond DA-20 Katana

The Diamond DA20 Katana is a light, 2-seat aircraft, although intended for flight training; it is a great airplane for sightseeing with excellent outside view ability. The Katana features are safety, easy handling and a great balance on fuel economy/performance. Inside the cockpit it is quiet and comfortable with modern avionics. The Katana is regarded all over the world as good value at a reasonable price.

·         Realistic flight dynamics developed with real Katana pilots.

·         Extensive Documentation.

Exterior model

The gmax designed exterior features all the standard animations like control surfaces, landing gear, canopy, but also animated pilot and passenger, removable cowling and fuel tank cap, brake blocks and maintenance equipment.

In the package are a total of 9 liveries of the DA-20-80 and 9 liveries of the DA-20-100. There are different configurations on the wheel fairing resulting in slightly different performance.

Repainting the Katana is pretty simple, as you don’t have to take care of details like screws, caps etc. – they are build into the model.

Cockpit and avionics

The Katana comes with a very complete set of avionics from the Bendix/King “Silver Crown Plus” series, to make IFR-Flying possible. The panel layout is accurate and provides the left and right panel side, as well as many sub panels like the control stand, radio stack, etc.

Enjoy the great view out of the virtual cockpit. The large Plexiglas canopy and the low-wing design provide stunning visibility.

Every instrument, switch and lever can be handled in the virtual cockpit. There is no need to switch to the 2d panel or use the keyboard. Even the canopy and slide window can be opened with a mouse click- and documentation can be accessed via a click spot. Gauges move smoothly- there is really no need to use the 2d panel if you don’t want to!

We paid great attention to create an interior that isn’t a clean and artificial adoption of what the real aircraft could look like. Enjoy a true to life, weathered and already used surrounding

If you don’t like to fly alone, invite ‘Liza’ to become your passenger and to take the right seat.

Aerodynamics and performance

The realistic flight dynamics were developed in co-operation with Katana pilots. Accurate airspeeds, climb rates, fuel consumption and handling result in an authentic experience flying the virtual counterpart of a plane, with a simply stunning performance.

Real pilots talk of difficulties when they steer a Katana for the first time. The experience of other general aviation aircrafts they flew before make them approach the runway too high and too fast. Therefore virtual pilots sometimes make the same experience. Accept the challenge, and pilot a plane that is light, has low air resistance and a progressive wing foil.

An extensive manual provides you with all numbers, tables and diagrams.
